You can choose whether to perform the automatic upload to Dropbox or Google Drive “Over Wi-Fi only” or “Over Wi-Fi or mobile network”. However, there could be instances where you are connected to a Wi-Fi network, but the upload does not run.
You can see that the upload is not running from the status message “Waiting for Wi-Fi to start upload” when uploading manually, from the waiting icon at the Dropbox or Google Drive icon on the recording list, or from the “Waiting… (xx remaining)” on the Dropbox or Google Drive settings.
The actual meaning of “Over Wi-Fi only” option is “Over unmetered Wi-Fi only”. There is a setting on Android to mark certain Wi-Fi network as “metered”. For example, if you use a mobile Hotspot and you tether your phone to that Hotspot using a Wi-Fi network, that network access point is automatically set as “metered” by Android. However, you can also mark any Wi-Fi access point as “metered” manually.
So, if you are using a Wi-Fi network that you think is not metered, but Hi-Q refuses to upload your recordings over that Wi-Fi network, you can mark that as unmetered by following the steps below, though each Android model has slightly different names or locations of the settings:
- Launch the system Settings application
- Tap on the Data Usage option
- Tap on the Network Restrictions option within the Wi-Fi section
- Toggle the Wi-Fi network you are currently using OFF, so that it is not considered as metered.
